There are a few simple tricks to keep in mind when drawing faces that can help you out. Faces are extremely symmetrical, but never hesitate to create your own unique version of a face. These are just general things that can help you along the way and mostly apply to realistic portraits than cartoons.
Always position the hair a bit higher then the top of the head, or else sometimes you may notice that your head looks a bit “flat.”
Your hairline is about 1/3 of the way from the top of the head to the eyes.
Eyes are positioned half way on the head. The tips of the ears are usually found at the same level as the eyebrows are, and a bit higher than the actual eyes.
The tip of the nose can be found 1/2 of the way from the eyebrows and chin, and also at the bottom of the ears
The bottom of the lips is 1/2 of the way from the tip of the nose, to the chin
E Y E S - Eyes differentiate from one another, but there are a few basic tips to keep them positioned correctly and naturally.
(1) Eyes are usually one eye width apart
(2) And usually positioned half an eye width from the “edge” of the face
Getting a realistic eye involves accenting the pupils (that black circle in the eye), as well as slightly outlining the iris (the colored area around the pupil).
Also adding a “glare” or shine on eye can add more realistic traits, but keep the edges of the shine crisp, clean, and un-smudged.
